Absentee Voting

Absentee voting in Kentucky, also called “mail-in voting” or “by-mail voting”, is casting your vote by mail-in ballot before the day of the Election. All states will mail a ballot to you if specific criteria are met, but some states have much stricter rules to meet these conditions. The voter may return the ballot in person or by mail. With uncertainties and unknowns around USPS delivery of your "mail-in" ballot during Covid-19, you may want to check for ballot drop-off boxes in your area as an alternative way to deliver your absentee ballot.

Kentuckians concerned with contracting or spreading COVID-19 can request a ballot by mail.

An online portal will launch within the week to allow Kentuckians to request a ballot by mail. Ballots can be requested through the portal through Oct. 9, and through traditional means after.

Drop boxes will be available for Kentuckians to return their mail ballots if they are concerned about postal delays. County clerks will determine these locations.

Absentee ballot request deadline: October 9, 2020

Early voting begins: October 13, 2020
